A fractional fibre laser that may be considered for skin texture, pigmentation and scarring after assessment at a St Kilda consultation.

Energy-Based Treatments

What is UltraClear laser?

UltraClear is a fractional fibre laser used for skin resurfacing. It is designed to deliver short pulses of laser energy in a fine, scattered pattern across the skin.

This pattern creates microscopic channels in the skin while leaving the tissue between them intact. The skin then begins its own repair process, which is intended to support collagen remodelling over time.

At the practice in St Kilda, Dr Marie-Claire offers several treatment approaches with this device. They differ in depth and intensity, and one is not a step you must complete before another.

Individual results vary. Whether laser is appropriate for you is decided only after Dr Marie-Claire has assessed your skin, your medical history and your goals.

How does it work?

The laser delivers energy in a fractional pattern, so only a portion of the skin surface is treated in each pass. The untreated skin between the channels helps the area heal.

Different approaches use different depths. A superficial approach acts on the outer layer of skin, while deeper approaches reach further and may involve more visible recovery.

Dr Marie-Claire chooses the approach, the area and the number of passes for your skin. Your plan is written down after consultation, and it may change as your skin responds.

  • 3DMIRACL / Clear mode is a superficial approach that acts on the outer layer of skin.
  • Clear+ / Ultra / UltraClear is a moderate approach, used where more depth is clinically appropriate.
  • Advanced multi-pass treatment is customised, combining modes in one session to suit different areas of the skin.
  • Laser-Coring is a distinct approach, offered for the half face and neck, and discussed individually at consultation.
  • Treatment areas include the full face, face and neck, and face, neck and chest.

Who is it for?

Laser may be considered by adults who have concerns about skin texture, uneven pigmentation, sun-related change or scarring. Dr Marie-Claire will assess whether it is a suitable option for you.

A Synergie Skin starter kit and a tailored skincare regimen are part of the plan. Your skin is prepared with this regimen before laser, and it is used again afterwards.

Treatment is not provided to anyone under 18.

Laser treatment may need to be deferred, or may not be suitable, in some situations. These include an active skin infection or cold sore, a recent tan or sun exposure, pregnancy or breastfeeding, certain medications, a history of keloid or raised scarring, and some skin conditions in the treatment area. Dr Marie-Claire will go through these with you at consultation, and the list is not complete.

  • Treatment time depends on the area and the approach chosen.
  • Your skin is soothed and protected at the end of the visit.

  • Superficial approaches usually settle more quickly, while deeper approaches may need a few days of social downtime.
  • Use the regimen and sun protection exactly as directed.
  • Avoid sun exposure while your skin heals.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does UltraClear cost in Melbourne?

The cost of UltraClear depends on the treatment area, the approach chosen and the number of sessions. Your costs are set out in a written plan after consultation with Dr Marie-Claire. UltraClear treatment prices are published on the pricing page. A Synergie Skin starter kit is included, and the tailored regimen is part of the plan.

How many UltraClear sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on your skin, your goals and the approach used. Some people are advised to consider a single session, while others are advised to consider a course over several weeks or months. Dr Marie-Claire will discuss this at consultation and review it with you as your skin responds. Individual results vary.

What is recovery like, and what are the side effects?

Common effects include redness, swelling and a feeling of warmth, and the skin may peel as it heals. Superficial approaches usually settle sooner. Deeper approaches may need a few days of social downtime. Sun avoidance and protection are essential during healing. Rarer risks, such as infection or pigment change, will be discussed with you at consultation.

Is laser suitable for darker skin tones?

Suitability varies by skin type. Any laser carries a risk of pigment change, and this risk is higher in some skin. Suitability and pigmentation risk are assessed individually, and Dr Marie-Claire will explain what is appropriate for your skin before any plan is made.

Is UltraClear right for me?

It depends on your skin, your medical history and what you would like to address. Laser is one of several approaches Dr Marie-Claire may discuss, alongside skincare and sun protection. Some people are advised to begin with skin health first. A consultation in St Kilda is where suitability, risks and alternatives are discussed before any treatment is planned.
